Raoul visits health clinic, meets with community leaders in Rockford

ROCKFORD – Alongside Congresswoman Cheri Bustos, Democratic attorney general candidate Kwame Raoul visited a community health clinic and held a roundtable with community leaders while in Rockford today. Raoul and Bustos toured the Woodward Campus of the Crusader Community Health Foundation, meeting with staff to learn about the challenges they face and the work they do to keep local residents healthy and connect those with addictions to resources that will help them recover.

“Healthcare access has always been an important policy priority for me, and as a cancer survivor whose health benefits saved my life, I’ll fight harder now than ever to make sure all Illinoisans can access the care they need,” Raoul said. “I’m visiting Crusader Community Health today to learn about the coordinated medical and behavioral health services its staff provides and, during Mental Health Awareness Month, to bring attention to the devastating disease of addiction and to learn from the treatment community about its successes and needs here in Rockford.”

“I appreciate the opportunity to introduce Kwame to people who are making a difference in Rockford and talk about what the attorney general can do to strengthen our communities,” Bustos said. “While I’m in Washington fighting for hardworking families across the heartland, we need a strong attorney general back here in Illinois who will step up to defend healthcare access and take on any threat to our rights.”

Following their tour of the health clinic, Raoul and Bustos met with a group of community leaders for a roundtable luncheon. They were joined by former Rockford Alderman Victory Bell, Winnebago County Clerk Tiana McCall, state Senator Steve Stadelman, state Representative Litesa Wallace, candidate for state representative (67th House district) Maurice West II, and Winnebago County Board member L.C. Wilson. Attendees discussed the needs of the Black community in the Rock River Valley.
